    Torture in any form is a sinful thing. I strongly disagree with witchcraft of any form, but that in no way justifies violence toward those that practice it.

    Geloof ik die vrouwen heksen waren? Het waarschijnlijkst zij weren' t. Geen van beiden werden het kleine aantal mensen ook beschuldigd. Er waren mensen die van het zijn worden beschuldigd weerwolven en vampieren. Anderen werden gedood omdat zij of de verkeerde benaming vrolijk waren.

    I think people often use religion as a way to oppress though Jesus himself condemned oppression.

    If this were a WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) question, here’s what I think he would have done.

    If you look at Matthew 7, for example, Jesus has an exchange with a Canaanite woman. Though Jesus was Jewish, he didn’t reject this woman or treat her as someone inferior to Jews. He made it clear he was the Lord of all humanity.

    In situations like this, I think we can learn from Jesus’ example that we are all members of the one human family. Jesus did not approve of one way of life over another. He even ate with thieves and ***********.

    Even if Jesus did believe witches were sinners, he would never have killed them. When a group stood ready to stone a sinner to death, Jesus’ told them that only those who had never sinned should throw the first stone. Basically, he made it clear that we are all guilty of some sin. And if God can forgive us, we should also forgive.

    Ik denk in termen van het heelal is buiten proportie geblazen, want het was ook in seculiere rechtbanken. Individueel, ik vind het gek, de gek beschuldigingen en de belachelijke tests bewijzen onschuld. middell]I think in terms of the macrocosm it is blown out of proportion, as it was also done in secular courts.

    My opinion about Xians torturing witches? Not good. But most who answered have little or no knowledge of history if they think that the Xians “stood out” in the cruelty department.

    The Japanese and Chinese had interesting ways of inflicting pain from Hundreds of years before Xianity existed (and the majority weren’t Xian then, or even now). The Japanese had horrible torture techniques during WWII and the Communists (Atheists) in The former Soviet union, People’s republic of China, Vietnam and Cambodia made the Spanish inquisition look down right civilized.

    I seem to remember Britons burning people in wicker cages and the Amerindians staking people to ant hills.

    But I guess its just Politically Correct to attack the Xians.

    Ten eerste ben ik het eens met Frau en Anthony. Antwoord: Europese christen branden en "hangen, trekken en kwartaal" straffen werden niet over het bestraffen van heksen, dit is de moderne misvatting van "de branden tijden". Deze uiterst pijnlijke straffen werden toegepast op de vele "misdaden" die werden beschouwd als anti-kerk of anti-staat (als de koning / staat werd geacht goddelijke). Dan concept van pijnlijke dood was voor het zuiveren van de ziel, zodat zij kunnen toetreden Heaven, om te sterven natuurlijk of pijnloos zou veroordelen de ziel naar de hel, terwijl de dood door pijnlijke beproeving was "doen de zondaar een gunst" als hun ziel zou dan gaan naar de hemel . Straffen zoals deze toegepast op ketters en / of heksen gezien moet worden door de sociale en culturele idealen van de periode, net als de heidense praktijken van onze oude voorouders, als we kijken via de mentaliteit van de mensen die het opleggen van de straf zijn volkomen gerechtvaardigd ook al uit onze moderne mentaliteit ze obsceen en onrechtvaardig. In de Noordse cultuur een moordenaar betaalde een boete van weregeld aan de familieleden van de overleden persoon, hoe onrechtvaardig en extreme zou de elektrische stoel of dodelijke injectie lijkt deze oude mensen? Morele waarden en sociale normen veranderen doorheen de geschiedenis en de moderne tijd lijkt net zo vreemd, barbaars en onrechtvaardig voor onze voorouders en hun gedrag lijkt nu naar ons.
